Francis Ford Coppola releases Director’s Cut from his first film Dementia 13

After Apocalypse Now Final Cut, The Cotton Club Encore and The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone, legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola has now turned his attention to his very first film for his next director, with Lionsgate and American Zoetrope announcing the upcoming release of Dementia 13: Director’s Cut.

Dementia 13 was produced by budget legend Roger Corman, who was looking for a psychopath impersonation and ultimately requested modifications to Coppola’s cut, bringing in director Jack Hill to shoot additional footage as he reworked the film. However, as Coppola states, “Dementia 13 Obviously holds a place in my heart as my first film and I’m very proud that it can now exist as I intended.

Francis Ford Coppola’s remastered “Dementia 13: Director’s Cut” is quintessential gothic horror, shrouded in the twisted mysteries of a family’s deepest and darkest secrets. A widow deceives her late husband’s mother and brothers into believing he is still alive when she attends the annual memorial in honor of her drowned sister, in hopes of securing her inheritance. But his cunning falls short of the demented ax-wielding ax scouring the family’s Irish estate in this cult favorite starring Patrick Magee, Luana Anders, William Campbell and Bart Patton.

Dementia 13: Director’s Cut will be released on Blu-ray and Digital on September 21.
