Why I Rejected Taylor Swift For “New Moon”
Taylor, where the hell were you, loca? Despite Taylor Swiftapparent eagerness to land a role in 2009 The Twilight Saga: The New Moon – the second film in the hit franchise – the film’s director turned it down.
On Tuesday, August 16, episode of Ashley Greene and Melanie HowePodcast “The Twilight Effect” by , director Chris Weitz revealed why he rejected the ‘Cardigan’ singer, 32, despite herself Dusk standard status
“Taylor Swift and I had the same agent at the time, and he said, ‘Taylor would love to be in this movie. Not because of you, but because she’s a Twihard,'” he said to Howe and Greene, 35 – who have portrayed Alice Cullen throughout the franchise.” ‘She’ll be someone in the cafeteria, or in the restaurant, or whatever, but she just wants to be in this movie. ‘”
Weitz, however, felt that Swift’s presence in the film would be too much of a distraction for audiences.
“The hardest thing for me was saying, ‘By the time Taylor Swift comes on the screen for about five minutes, nobody’s going to be able to process anything,'” he explained, revealing his regrets.
“I also kicked myself for that, because I was like, ‘Wow, I could have hung out with Taylor Swift and maybe we could have been friends or something,'” added the filmmaker.” And so, I kind of feel like, uh, I had kind of cost myself a chance to date Taylor Swift and she just had to say, ‘Who is this fool that would say no?
Still, Weitz felt like he made the right choice. “But sometimes you make decisions and you’re like, ‘It’s for the best of the movie,'” he concluded.
If Swift had played a role in New Moonthis would have marked her second film with her then-boyfriend Taylor Lautner in less than a year. She and Lautner, 30 – who portrayed Jacob Black throughout the Dusk franchise – dated fall 2009, just around the November release of New Moon. While they called it quits in December, Taylor Squared shippers still got to see their favorite couple in a relationship (on-screen) when Valentine’s day was released in February 2010.
Although she was not ultimately chosen for any of the Dusk movies, the Grammy winner didn’t let that slow her acting career, later appearing in 2014 The donor and 2019 Catsas well as releasing an extensive catalog of award-winning and critically acclaimed albums.
